Terra Firma Building and Remodeling enlisted our Pella of Minnesota team to provide the windows for this vibrant kitchen remodel, which beautifully blends contemporary style with mid-century modern influences, designed by K Nelson Architects. This project involved an addition to expand the home's existing kitchen and provide the ability to reconfigure the space. Pella Reserve — Contemporary windows were added to bring in more natural light above the sink and throughout the kitchen, echoing the mid-century modern emphasis on indoor-outdoor connection. A bold color palette and warm wood tones, reminiscent of iconic mid-century designers, round out the design. The result is a bright, fresh look with fun pops of color that pays homage to the clean lines, organic shapes and functional aesthetics of mid-century modern design while meeting today's needs.

White Windows Brighten Kitchen in the North Star State

The renovation centered on expanding and reconfiguring the existing kitchen, with a focus on maximizing natural light — a precious commodity in Minnesota's northern climate. New white windows were placed above the sink , brightening up the color scheme of the kitchen and allowing the homeowners to bask in the warm glow of Midwest summers and appreciate the stark beauty of winter landscapes.

Wood Windows and Sliding Patio Door Bridge Indoor and Outdoor Living

The architects chose contemporary casement windows for their ability to seamlessly blend with the home's mid-century aesthetic while providing modern performance. Casement windows, known for their easy-to-open design, were installed to take advantage of Minneapolis's comfortable summer breezes. A large picture window serves as a focal point, framing views of the neighborhood's lush tree canopy and connecting the indoor space with the vibrant environment beyond.

In the land of 10,000 lakes, outdoor living is cherished during the warm months. The new patio door allows the homeowners to easily extend their kitchen area into the backyard, perfect for summer barbecues or enjoying the colorful fall foliage. The door’s large glass area floods the interior with natural light, making the space feel larger and more open — a welcome feature during Minneapolis’ long winters.

Functionality Meets Minneapolis Style with New Wood Windows

In true Minnesotan fashion, the renovation balances practicality with style. The new wood windows boast improved energy efficiency, crucial for withstanding the state's extreme temperature swings. Matte black hardware on the casement windows and sliding patio door complements the cabinet fixtures, adding a touch of sophistication while maintaining the clean lines characteristic of mid-century modern design. This Minneapolis home has achieved a perfect balance of form and function. The result is a bright, fresh space that not only meets the needs of modern living but also celebrates the unique character of its Midwestern setting.
