Nestled in Midtown Oklahoma City stands this historic law office with a legacy spanning over a century. At the time of this project, it was 112 years old. This beautiful building has weathered the passage of time, enduring Oklahoma’s varying climate and witnessing the growth of a bustling cityscape around it. With age comes the need for modernization, and the time had come for this building to undergo a commercial window replacement.
Energy-Efficient Windows Help Cut Utility Costs
One of the main reasons for this window replacement project was that the original windows were experiencing drafts and leaks. In the summer, the Oklahoma heat was coming in and the cool conditioned air was able to escape. In the winter, it was difficult to keep the building warm as the cold outdoor air came inside. These inefficient windows were causing uncomfortable temperatures in the office, disrupting the focus and productivity of lawyers, paralegals and office staff — not to mention causing a spike in utility bills, too.
With this in mind, we put careful consideration into selecting windows that would greatly improve energy efficiency. The wood windows we installed deliver exceptional energy efficiency. Wood is a natural insulator, meaning it helps slow the transfer of heat. The new windows also feature multiple panes of glass, increasing insulating air space. Our expert installers ensured the windows were properly installed and sealed, eliminating drafts and leaks. Thanks to new windows, the office feels cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Now that the HVAC system doesn’t have to work so hard, the law firm is also noticing a decrease in its utility costs. A more comfortable work environment and lower energy expenses are a win-win for this project.
Customizable Wood Windows Mimic Originals
At the start of this project, the business owners made it clear that they hoped to preserve the historic integrity of this charming building. While they wanted to upgrade to energy-efficient windows, they didn’t want to drastically change the overall look and feel. We recommended Pella Lifestyle Series windows for their ability to mimic the appearance of the original windows while offering superior energy efficiency. Double-hung and awning window types fit perfectly in the existing openings and preserve the traditional aesthetic. We added grilles to the windows for added character that furthers the historic look. The replacement windows look clean and fresh, renewing the century-old building while honoring its history.
Pella Oklahoma Brings Expertise to Historic Restoration
Undertaking this project posed a unique set of challenges, particularly given the building's age and distinctive construction. The old brick presented potential obstacles that could only be fully assessed once the window installation began. Armed with experience and a deep understanding of the building's history, our team at Pella of Oklahoma was prepared to navigate any challenges that arose during the process. This wasn't the first time our team had been called upon for the restoration of this historic building. In the aftermath of the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995, which destroyed the building's doors, we stepped in to replace them. Now, the entire building is filled with high-quality Pella windows and doors.
The customer's satisfaction with the updated replacement windows speaks volumes about the success of this project. With their newfound energy efficiency and timeless elegance, the windows strike the perfect balance between tradition and modernization. This project serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of this historic law office and the commitment to preserving its heritage for years to come.
