For the students and faculty at Dorseyville Middle School, having classrooms that provide safety and comfort throughout the school day is of utmost importance. The Fox Chapel Area School District turned to Pella of Pittsburgh to address the middle school’s inefficient aluminum windows that were challenging to operate and thermally inefficient. Our team was tasked with proposing a window solution that prioritized comfort and energy savings.
Our Pittsburgh Commerical team paired with MacBracey Corporation and the architects at Canzian Johnston & Associates. The new installation features Pella Impervia fiberglass awning and casement windows, equipped with Easy-Slide Operators. This modern design doesn't just look great — it makes it easier to open and close the windows, saves energy and keeps the students and staff comfortable all year round.
Easy-Slide Operator Hardware Accessible for All Abilities
At Dorseyville Middle School, the Easy-Slide Operator simplifies the operation of awning and casement windows, making them accessible for all. Furthermore, this mechanism meets ADA specifications when paired with our accessibility lock lever, another important consideration in public spaces. This hardware uses a one-hand operation ensuring an easy opening without awkward hand placement or the need for excessive force. Designed for inclusivity, the hardware has curved horizontal tab surfaces to accommodate many grip styles. The hardware knob also incorporates a wing back feature to guard against unwanted contact from the window jab.
Fiberglass Windows Help Improve Energy Efficiency
Our proprietary fiberglass windows use a thermoset material, ensuring they do not warp or shrink in extreme temperatures. The specialty formula reduces heat transfers, helping cut heating and cooling costs for our clients. Fiberglass acts as a natural insulator which maintains a comfortable temperature for the school no matter the weather outside.
Our clients were pleased with the powder-coat finish that meets AAMA 624, ensuring that the frames are resistant to cracking and fading. White frames were a great solution, providing both long-lasting beauty and durability to the school’s red brick exterior.
